Young lawyers Richard Mugisha of the Rwanda Law Society and Maureen Mbeneka of the Law Society of Kenya were on 8th April 2019 elected to be Members of the Commonwealth Lawyers’ Association Council. The duo has previously served as President and Vice President of the East African Law Society.
The Commonwealth Lawyers Association Council is the Central organ for the CLA and is responsible for the formulation of policies for the Association. It is composed of amongst others, representatives of Commonwealth member countries
The Council members are elected on a bi- annual basis during the Commonwealth Law Conference, and elected members serve for a two-year term, but are eligible for re-election.
Their election comes at the time when Lawyer Associations around the globe are moving towards setting up more inclusive environments for young legal practitioners.
The PALM Magazine shall continue to feature and recognize Young African Practitioners in our segment: Millenials. Feel free to nominate and share your suggestions to info@thepalmagazine.com.
