Jemilat serves as an Assistant Editor at The People’s Accolade Law Magazine (The PALM). In her role, she contributes as a researcher, writer, and editor, leveraging her legal background and passion for publishing to enhance the quality of the magazine’s content. She is dedicated to developing her skills in both the legal and media sectors, with aspirations to make a significant impact in the publishing, media, and legal industries throughout her career.
Before joining The PALM, Jemilat built a strong foundation in her academic and professional journey. She was an active member of the drafting committee for The Congress, the legislative arm of the Law Students Association (LAWSA) at the University of Benin. For her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree, she undertook an in-depth exploration of the “Hate Speeches Bill of 2019: An Act to Provide for the Prohibition of Hate Speeches and Other Related Matters”, demonstrating her analytical and research expertise.
Jemilat graduated with a Second Class Upper Division from the University of Benin and just completed her legal training at the Nigerian Law School. Her professional development includes interning with Hilton Top Solicitors, where she participated in a virtual “Women in Technology” course, earning a certificate of participation. She also gained hands-on experience with the Legislative Drafting Department at the Lagos State House of Assembly, deepening her understanding of legislative processes and legal drafting. As an aspiring member of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), Jemilat is committed to enhancing her skills in legal mediation and conflict resolution, reflecting her dedication to fostering meaningful change in the legal landscape.
