Launch of the “Law and Society in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of Hon. Justice Marshal Umukoro” by Oghenemaro Festus Emiri, SAN and Desmond Orisewize Esq

The South Southern region of Nigeria stood still on Thursday 20th of May, 2021 as dignitaries gathered to celebrate the grand launch of the book in tribute and honor of His Lordship, Honorable Justice Marshal Umukoro, the Chief Judge of Delta State at the Crescendo Event Centre in the state. This book which serves as an appreciation of the Hon. Justice’s scholarly contributions to the development of the law and administration of justice.

The Foreword of the book was written by Dr. Valerie Azinge SAN. Upon obtaining the consent of the Chief Judge, and Editorial Board was constituted comprising of Professor Oghenemaro Festus Emiri, SAN; Samuel N. Agweh, SAN; Dr John Okongwu; Andrew Odum, Esq; Freddie Eruli Ede; Kester Oyibo and Desmond Orisewize Esq.

The idea to write this book was first muted by Desmond Orisewize Esq, an Associate with Perchstone & Graeys, one of Nigeria’s leading commercial law firm. As a multi-faceted legal practitioner, public orator, mediator and policy strategist, in pursuit of his areas of interest and law endeavours, Desmond holds membership and professional certifications from Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Institute of Human Resources and Strategic Management (where he also teaches Leadership Development for HR Professionals), Institute of Certified Business Consultants and the National Institute of Information Technology.

In 2020, he was voted as the One of the Most Influential Law Graduate from Delta State University in the LSWK’s WHO’s WHO 2020 University Category. Later in the month of August, he was ranked amongst the Top 100 Most Influential Young Persons in Delta State, Nigeria for 2020.

His book which was incorporated as part of the official state events marking the retirement of the Hon. Chief Judge, was attended by His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa of Delta State. The book launching was kick started by the Chairman of the book launch ceremony, His Excellency, Gov Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON (ably represented by Rivers State Head of Service) and several top serving and retired judges, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, traditional rulers, Parliamentarians, distinguished legal practictioners, Gentlemen of the press and the business community.
